As I outlined in an earlier post, insurance peddler and spammer extraordinaire Carlos “The Bulk Email Stops Here” Bastardo finds himself so desperate for business that he has no choice but to continue spamming the cold leads he purchases for his “Mega Life Insurance” franchise.
Even after being asked to stop emailing his pitiful little info-emails, he continued to do so and even stopped by to say hi:
What a great sense of accomplishment I wish i had as much time on my hands to play games on the internet after you admitted you requested information. Grow up and quit playing baby games. By the way, who is the little man hiding behind his wife, you know my name tough guy! Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - 04:20 PM
What spammers like Bastardo and others do not realize, however, is that they are playing the wrong game with the wrong people. Those of us who must deal on a daily basis with repeated offers from sources we neither know nor trust are the victims in the escalation of desperation on the part of spam senders. Carlos doesn’t realize here that he is only in business because there are consumers who will make choices they feel are adequately informed and good for them.
Those consumers don’t want the condescension of being told their business is only a matter of altruistic efforts to help them. The don’t need bastards like Bastardo to give assurances that he will make everything better even as he picks their pockets and floods their inboxes.
In truth, Carlos has an entitlement personality that believes we exist for him instead of the other way around.
We have few worries, however, as the emails from Carlos are being collected into an ever-growing file for submission to various spam blacklists around the Net. These lists are heavily mined by the junk mail filters in such programs as Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo.
Carlos hasn’t yet seen that particular endgame. By his own ignorance of knowing when to leave people alone, he is getting himself added to junk filters around the world.
*UPDATE*
It’s nice to see Carlos stopping by for a visit from time to time. He should understand that if he is reading, a lot of others are too. His latest rant came in the form of a comment left at the original post regarding his spamming practices. Let’s take a look at it and cut it down into bite-sized pieces:
You are obviously making up for other insecurities in your life by acting like what you are doing now is "oh so righteous" and "look at me everybody I am Mr. Intellectual because I really got this guy good". Get off of your hi horse and stop acting like you really make a difference. If you were so smart in the first place, then why not go directly to BC/BC website or call them for assistance.
It appears Carlos considers himself a trained psychologist in addition to his other delusions of being an ethical business person. What’s even more amazing is how he owns up to the fact that it would take assistance from his parent franchiser in order gain any relief from his onslaught of spam mail. However, what he doesn’t realize is that the parent company was contacted first and was told to watch this space for any response Carlos might have.
Thanks once again for stopping by, Bastardo!
It's obviously not too smart to go on a website and just blast your information out to everyone. Maybe in the future, YOU should be careful how YOU conduct personal business, if you are so smart.
Here is another interesting warning and admission of guilt from Carlos that he is indeed a predatory spammer. By his own words, he admits that if people were smart enough, they wouldn’t give him real information. While that is a strange self-loathing on his part, what he now realizes is the only pieces of real information he has is a phone number and email address.
And you sound ignorant when you talk about being an ambulance chaser and taking advantage of people. How do you even justify those comments? #1 I provide a service to people who need my service. #2 I do not solicit people unless THEY have initiated a request for my type of service. Did you specifically request information from me? No, I know you didn’t. But by going to the wrong source to find insurance, how many other dozen agents called you or emailed you for the exact same services?
So, Carlos admits that he is part of the “wrong source” to get insurance information? How very strange. Such a valuable service as he allegedly provides would be something people seek out on their own without need of him to chase down months-old leads. Once my wife informed other spammers of her desire to be removed from their calling/emailing lists, they complied immediately. But not Carlos. Not The Bastardo. No, he wanted to take it up a notch and so here we are.
I do not chase the sick, I do not chase the hungry, and I do not chase the "hard up". I have been providing my type of service for over 13 years and I can honestly say you are the first and only person to ever question my integrity or honesty. And the reason why, is you are just one of those flag burners who has something to prove and a “nobody going to get over on me attitude”. And because of a stupid email, that is supposed to change my whole career and status with the community, all my clients (currently over 1,000) would laugh there heads off if I showed them your comments and this website.
If Carlos has indeed been in business for 13 years and only has 1000 clients to show for his effort, it becomes a little easier to understand why he is so desperate as to chase down any cold lead he can pay for. That’s only a roughly 77 new clients per years, or just above 6 per month. I certainly hope he has another job going for himself and his family.
I would also strongly encourage Carlos to show these blog posts to his existing clients. Since it is only future or potential clients I am warning, perhaps the existing customers should be given the chance to take heed as well.
Because when you wade through this entire BS, it simply comes down to this: Yes I made a mistake by not removing your wife’s email in time from the email server. For that only, I apologize. The email was duplicated twice, and I only deleted 1 of them. But couldn't you have just simply unsubscribed from the bottom of the email which is within compliance? That's what I simply do when I receive unsolicited emails. Instead, you went dumpster diving through your "SPAM" folder which you otherwise would not have seen anyways. So your attempts to solicit information ILLEGALY in my name and giving out my personal information when I never initially inquired about anything, is not legal and has been reported to the porter county lead deceive. Next time you want to get even with someone, contain your pride and try not to let them know what you did and that you are responsible.
As a matter of fact, my wife did respond and ask to be removed....twice. Yet, even today she is still receiving emails.
As for allegations of illegality, not only is Bastardo barking up the wrong tree, but he is doing it in the wrong county, state, and area of the country. It is a sign of a poor businessman indeed who has no apparent understanding of the Federal jurisdiction over such matters as Internet-related information transfers. Should he desire to seek Federal relief from the allegations he claims, then I would invite him to do so, if only for his own education.
For example, he will learn of the Privacy Act of 1993, which address the protections consumers enjoy from the very thing Carlos makes his living doing. What Carlos will also learn from that Act is that he is a public entity and that his public information is considered on par with other corporate presences and is thus NOT protected by the Privacy Act. Further still, should The Bastardo REALLY want to play ball, a counter motion of discovery would be filed for the disclosure of all communications and lead-purchase records to ensure that our current incident is merely a singular event and not something prosecutable under a Class Action.
Besides, I do have a spam filter and I click 1 button at the end of the day and I never have to be bothered with the unsolicited mail that I did not request. My time is more important than this type of nonsense. With that being said, I must move on with my life now, I have several clients to call who are truly in need of service and are not looking for the next poster child for their “I have something to prove to the world campaign”. I wish you good luck in your endeavors and I hope that you really find some true meaning in your life that makes you passionate and not vengeful.
Carlos Bastardo is a spammer and, worse still, of the kind who has called me in the past. I came home one Friday night several years ago and found half a dozen missed calls on my phone. At around 8 that evening, the phone rings again and the solicitor on the other end begins his pitch. I interrupt him to say I am not interested, to which he responds in the same haughty manner as Carlos that he is only trying to help me save money. I replied that I was currently sitting at home, enjoying the company of friends and an ice cold beer while he was at work on a Friday evening and yet thought HE could offer ME financial advice.
Carlos, you aren’t a public servant. You are a poor businessman and even worse of a human being for promoting yourself to self-declared servant of humanity. You couldn’t simply have crawled back beneath the Internet rock from whence you came on the scent of fresh blood. No, you had to justify yourself and your practices in a rude exchange of emails which are now part of the public record on you and your business dealings forever.

What an ass! Been there and done that. He should find a new job!
What an ass! Perhaps Pampers would serve him better:)
Is this for real? What kind of salesman does this?
This is, indeed, for real. Carlos Bastardo buys lists of possible sales leads from companies which collect the data for that purpose. He then contacts those leads months after the fact and pretends to be offering them a needed service. The truth is, he is just hustling for his own bottom line and when he was asked to stop contacting us, he decided to play around.
