The "Islamophobia" Bugbear

Through many online debates, some of which are even spilling over on this site, and almost daily stories from such wacked out "new" sources as World Net Daily, a chief trend I have been seeing is the concern over the spread of Islam. From all that I have gleaned, the following appear to be biggest complaints/fears of seeing Islam become so large:

1. Western countries will fall to some kind of Islamic revolution and have governments replaced with extremist Muslims who will institute Sharia law for all inhabitants.

2. Western governments will allow this to happen in order to appease Muslims in the name of "multi-culturalism".

3. Birth rates also allow this to happen since Western countries have a declining birth rate while Muslim families are above average.

4. The spread of Islam means all non-Muslims will be forced to covert or face death.



It should be pointed out, the more intelligent of the people who make these arguments, the ones who garner my respect enough to offer a response, are quick to point out a difference between the culture of the Islamic religion and that of an Arab ethnicity. Not all Muslims are Arab and not all Arabs are Muslim. Another line between the insane and the intelligent is in saying not all Muslims agree with the most extreme examples of their religion.
