Fair weather Americans

In Googling a bit on political asylum seekers, I stumbled across this link to a Craig's List ad in the UK.

I know we all remember the big uproar back in 2000 when A-list celebrities were threatening to move abroad should George W. Bush win the election. It was a whiny, fair weather patriot rant that was largely derided and mocked by both the right and left wings. It appears we now have sore losers threatening the same again this election, even to the point of absurdly claiming the need for "political asylum" from the US!

Not only does this disrespect those individuals who seek actual political asylum from their countries for genuine reasons, it casts the person and those like her into the same realm of simpering complaining we all mocked in Hollywood actors pretending the world was ending.

I encourage anyone and everyone to RESPECTFULLY write to this young lady and try to talk some sense into her for this rather silly posting she may come to regret in embarrassment someday.

***UPDATE***

The young lady has already written me a reply after I voiced similar thoughts as above via email. See below for full text:

40 offers actually... But I admit my add being rather over the top has actually sparked new friendships and I love talking to people.

In my opinion Bush sucked, McCain sucked, and where Obama MIGHT be a good president he lacks the experience needed for the commander in chief. I wish he would have waited 4 more years to have more experience. And, for the record race has NOTHING to do with it as I am not a close minded person.

I am fully aware, by the way, of "political asylum" means and what one endures. Like I said I admit fully it was over the top and overly dramatic and a moment of panic.

But, not that you care, since my ancestry roots from England as far back as 150 years before any drop of Irish is found I have ALWAYS been fascinated with my heritage and before Tuesday considered a transfer with my company to Basingstoke.

All the best,
Tara

Your ad requesting political asylum is rather a laugh given that you obviously have no clue what real seekers of political asylum often endure for years prior. People like you are fair-weather citizens, loving the US when it suits their ideologies, but crying like spoiled children when the process doesn't go their way.

I highly doubt you will get any offers for your ludicrous proposal as the UK has joined the rest of the world in welcoming the incoming Obama administration. You will likely find as many or more Obama supporters in England as you will in the US.

Good luck, but the US is probably better with your kind anyway.
