Obama addressing school kids? Creepy? Reagan doing the same thing in 1988? Hmm

A GOP member in Florida had this to say about President Obama's upcoming address to students across the nation:

As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology" and "I do not support using our children as tools to spread liberal propaganda.

Whew! Thank goodness we have the GOP looking out for our best interests regarding school children being exposed to the melodic, soothing tones of President Obama's voice! Why, I imagine many students would jump to their feet in a hardy "seig heil" if it weren't for this criticism of a president addressing students through the aid of technology like television in many schools.

Yeah, except no.

In 1988, then-President Reagan invited not just a junior high school class INTO the White House for a speech and Q&A with the president, he BROADCAST it live to schools around the nation through both C-Span and the Instructional Television Network, the precursor to our modern day Channel 1 in most schools.

Funny how there wasn't an outcry over the Gipper using his authority to bypass parents in order to defend his policies, justify GOP rationale, and basically turn American school kids into a captive audience of the Gipper.
