[/caption]A new tradition in the US is for the religious right to stamp their little feet in outrage over the gradual reclaiming of this time of year by secular society and other religions. A new addition to this year’s manufactured culture battle is the website StandForChristmas.com. The site features a rating system of various retailers’ efforts at falling in line with Christian dogma. The retailers are rated as being Christmas Friendly, Offensive, or Negligent. Note the lack of an option for “don’t give a rat’s ass about your religion”.
The system also allows comments to be posted.

So, naturally, I signed up and started rating away. Curiously, the comments have to be approved by an administrator before they are added to the pile. Oh well, here’s my contribution, posted to every retailer in their list:
“I am glad that retailers are recognizing the fact that this time of year isn't exclusively celebrated by Christians and that Christianity isn't the sole basis for holidays occurring during this time. Most Christians truly do believe their god was born sometime in the winter, conveniently around the time other, more ancient celebrations were occurring. The truth is, Christianity attempted to overwrite every local holiday it encountered during its politically-backed expansion of the last 1700 years. Time to take back solstice!”
